The advance foot care nurses certificate program provides registered nurses RN's and registered practical nurses RPN's with the knowledge and skills necessary to function as a foot care nurse in private practice, or within their health care community setting.
This comprehensive advanced and diabetic foot care program follows current best practice guidelines and evidence based practice.
Topics Includes:
-Diabetes: a review of type 1 and type 2 of the disease process including prevalence, diagnoses, treatment, management, nutrition, medication. -Various ulcers and stages of ulceration -Wound healing and factors affecting wound healing, -Assessment, health teaching and documentation specific to foot care -Foot care tools equipment and supplies --CNO standards, infection prevention and control
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to identify and understand causes, prevention and treatment of common foot and nail disorders. You will be able to assess, understand factors affecting foot health, and be aware of foot care within the scope of nursing practice.
Practical advice and information on establishing a private foot care business will be provided..
Entrance requirement : a current non- restricted nursing registration license as a registered nurse, license practical nurse, or registered practical nurse with College of Nurses Of Ontario.
Course material: Foot care manual and foot care kit is not included.
Course is offered over 5 weekends. Please note that the course is subject to numbers, and the College reserves the right to cancel a course if the numbers are not met, should this occur fees paid will be return..
Funding : For nurses in Ontario, for reimbursement of tuition fees paid, contact RNAO and RPNAO for application form for funding grant up to $1500./year
Course duration 80 hours, students will be expected to participated in in class lab and accompany the foot care nurse in a community setting, complete 20 case studies on foot care management. Please do not cut your toe nails for 1 month prior to course starting.
Upon completion of theory, in class test, demonstrate proficiency of skills in class lab, and completion of 20 case studies. The student will be awarded the Advance foot care nurse certificate..
