Personal Support Worker Diploma
The goal of the personal support worker program is to provide personal ,emotional and supportive care to clients of all ages suffering with mental , cognitive ,and physical disabilities living in long term care facilities , residential homes ,group homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centre,supportive housing,hospices.and schools
The main emphasis is placed on the role of the personal support worker(PSW) in assisting with client care , empowering and respecting clients autonomy ,values,beliefs and in being a facilitator in the healing process of clients suffering from physical and emotional pain.

Pre-requesite : High school diploma, Standard first aid cpr for adult and children, hepatitis B vaccine, TB mantoux skin test,Flu vaccine,criminal reference check the college reserved to right to deny students admission that has a conviction that is not pardoned.
Personal Support Worker Diploma Course Content
Section 1: The role of the Personal Support Worker, individuality of the person, communication and interpersonal skills. Section 2: Safety, Mobility, Transfers, and Abuse
Section 3: Household Management, meal preparation, and feeding techniques
Section 4: Providing Optimal Support/Care Planning, and computer charting.
Section 5: Assisting a person with personal hygiene
Section 6: Assisting the family, setting boundaries.
Section 7: Stress, assertiveness. Stress management techniques
Section 8: Palliative Care (Care of the Dying Patient)
Section 9; Anatomy and physiology
Section 10: Cognitive Impairment and Mental Health Issues
Section 11: Assisting a person to manage ongoing conditions
Section 12: Assisting children with physical and neurological impairment
Section 13: Assisting a person with medications. Regulation, the seven rights of medication administration Section 14: Preparing for work, resume planning, interview skills techniques.
Course format: Instructor led, lab demonstration, group discussion, student assignment and research paper.
Course duration 6 months: Including 360 clinical hours. That is 5wks times40 hr/wk in a nursing home and 4 wks times 40hr/ wk in a group home or retirement home setting.
Note : Students with prior learning experience may qualify for credits if they meet the criteria.
Course offered days evening and weekends
A Diploma is awarded upon completion of the course. The student must successfully pass the theory , clinicals component of the course and the final exam to qualify .
